That's the heat shield for the left hand Dura wood table.

Thank you, that's kinda what I thought, so if your grill had real wood slats, it didn't have that piece then ?

I've only seen those with Dura wood. And, even with them, you can still get some "melting" on the last slat.

I still put one on wood slat grills, it can't hurt.

I thought it helped hold the slats in. Never thought of it as a heat shield. I just picked one up off the curb with wood slats and a makeshift folding table with original hinges and hardware on the folding table. However the S/N wouldn’t decode in the Weber site so I’m unsure of its true age. I believe it’s a 1000. It has casters on the left side.

If you know the serial number you can tell it's age. If it's a '94 or newer anyway.

I can read the SN off the tag. But when I input it into Weber’s site it comes back as an invalid SN

What is the serial number? Actually, a picture of the whole label could be helpful.

All you really need is the first two letters of the SN to determine it's age.
